The department consists of an Undergraduate Program, a Graduate Program, an Extension Program and the EMBA program. There are currently 650 students enrolled in this Department. The mission of the department is to develop the student's professional skills related to the transportation industry with an emphasis on shipping and aviation management. It is our goal to teach students how to effectively communicate with others in a business setting both domestically and internationally.
Over 80% of our professors possess a Ph.D. This ensures high quality instruction. There are ten classrooms, which have unique shipping and transportation management simulation software. Some examples include: Trade Van & EDI Simulation Lab and Shipping Documents Operation Simulation Lab.
The Undergraduate studies educational focus is on practical situations, which includes Marine Management, Aviation Cargo Management, Marine Law, International Trade, Information Technology, Business English, and various General Management Courses. In Graduate studies, the focus is on the Logistics of Marine and Aviation Cargo, Harbor Management and Shipping Economics.
The department has built up many long term relationships with various successful Taiwanese businesses. Students have the opportunity to participate in a co-operative education program with these businesses in order to enrich their learning. If the student's perform well in these companies, there is potential for employment upon completion of the program. The majority of our graduates are employed in Shipping Companies, Shipping Engine Companies, Forwarder Companies, International Logistics, Industry Insurance Companies, Express Transportation Companies, and Container Businesses. There is also an opportunity to participate in the Government's Public Officer Examination. This can lead to employment as a Marine and Custom's Public Officer. Upon completion of the Undergraduate program, students are encouraged to continue their education into the Graduate program to further develop their skills.
The EMBA program is a specialized program within the department. It helps Managers develop skills related to the shipping industry. The students currently enrolled in the EMBA program have very diversified backgrounds, which span outside of the realm of shipping management to include areas such as manufacturing managers and service managers. Anyone that has a strong desire to succeed in their career will benefit through completion of a program in the Department. |
